The scanner
Verifying the scanner
Code signing, SHA-256 hashes and antivirus warnings.
Before you send a player a link, you can confirm the file is the real Trace scanner. Every build is code-signed, and its SHA-256 hash is published here.
Current build
| Version | 1.8.2 |
|---|---|
| SHA-256 | Not published for this build yet. Ask in Discord. |
| Signed | Yes, code-signed |
Check the hash yourself
Open PowerShell in the folder you downloaded the scanner to and run:
Get-FileHash .\trace-scanner.exe -Algorithm SHA256
The Hash it prints must match the SHA-256 above exactly. If it doesn't, don't run the file, and tell us in Discord where you got it.
Check the signature
Right-click trace-scanner.exe, open Properties, then Digital Signatures. A valid signature means the file hasn't been changed since it was signed.
Antivirus warnings
Some antivirus tools flag any process that reads another process's module list, which is exactly what a scanner has to do. A matching hash and a valid signature confirm it's the real file. Tell players what the scanner does before asking them to run it.
